Gone are the days when car washes used to be dirty, dingy spaces behind major department stores. Modern systems are made up of several parts and equipment that pre-soak, scrub, and dry the vehicle.
Most parts of the modern car wash are controlled by hydrostatic systems. For instance, the scrubbers are typically vertical cylinders to which thousands of cloth strips are attached. These scrubbers are rotated by motors at speeds ranging from 100 to 500 rotations per minute to provide the friction necessary to clean the exterior of most vehicles.
There is also at least one scrubber on either side of the wash station, and these cloth strips will clean the vehicle’s surfaces as it moves between the scrubbers. Some feature wrap-around washers, which are a form of scrubbers that can move to the front and rear, for a more effective wash. Once the vehicle is cleaned, it passes through a high-pressure washer that sprays water jets onto the car, cleaning any dirt left by the scrubbers and rinses the vehicle.
