Hydraulic Fittings Supplier in Houston, TX

Hydraulic fittings are components that are used to make connections between tubes, hoses, and pipes. Since they are usually under high pressure, these must adhere to strict standards of tolerance and performance and must be able to provide service safely, to avoid any damage to expensive equipment or nearby humans. Several standards have been developed about the pressure ratings they must withstand, as well as construction standards and dimension requirements.

Materials Hose Fittings are Made From

Fittings come in a variety of styles, and each come with their own specific strengths and weaknesses.

Steel

Made of a mix of Iron and other metals, these are considerably more durable and have a higher resistance to heat. These are typically the standard fitting that is used in many instances, where a more expensive fitting is not necessary but is not very resistant to corrosion.

Stainless Steel

These are typically used when there is a large temperature range that needs to be accounted for, as stainless-steel hose components can withstand temperatures from as low as -425 degrees Fahrenheit, and as high as 1200 degrees. Additionally, they are well-suited to highly corrosive environments, and conditions of exorbitant pressure. As a result, they do have a considerably higher price point, so they are typically only used when another fitting material will not work.

Brass

Brass hose fittings are typically stronger than steel, and weaker than stainless steel, making them an ideal middle-road choice for many applications. These can typically withstand pressure up to 3000 psi but are usually recommended for usage in lower ranges.

Aluminum

These are much lighter than steel and are also corrosion-resistant. Because of these strengths, these are most used in the automotive industry.

Types of Hydraulic Hose Fittings

Hydraulic hose fittings come in a variety of shapes and are manufactured in two primary types for the attachment of hoses. The shapes for these fittings are known as unions, plugs, and elbows. Unions are straight-edged fittings, with either a male/female, male/male, or female/female pairing for attachments for hoses and cylinders. The Elbow is a similarly built union, but with a corner built into the connection, allowing for angled attachments from anywhere between 10 and 90 degrees. The plug is a single-sided fitting that attaches to one end of a hose to create a seal, rather than linking it to another hose or cylinder.

Permanent Crimp Fittings

These are the most used type and require the use of a crimping machine to attach the hose onto the fitting, so that the cylinder may function.

Flare Fittings

Flare fittings are a form of compression fitting used in conjunction with metal tubing, often made of aluminum, copper, or soft steel. This results in a leak-tight seal that can stand up to high levels of pressure. The Flare adapters provide considerable long-term durability, making them ideal both for use in relatively inaccessible areas, and for most crucial mission situations.

O-Ring Face Seal

ORFS connections make use of O-rings, which usually lie in the face of the fitting and those elastomeric seals provide a leak-resistant, flared tube fit, which should prevent hydraulic leaks when implemented properly. With the tightening of the connection, the O-ring compresses against a flat side sleeve, creating a metal-to-metal seal with a leakage barrier on the O-ring. O-ring face seal connections can eliminate leaks in the hydraulic system up to levels of 6000 psi.

NPT

U.S. National Standard Pipe Thread, often known as national pipe thread standards, or NPTs, are technical standards for specific screw threads, usually used for pipes and threaded pipes, adopted in the U.S. These standards include straight thread and tapered series for a variety, pressure-tight sealing, or rigidity applications, and, in some cases, both in combination. Threaded pipes provide efficient sealing of pipes used for the transportation of hydraulic oil, steam, gas, or air.

JIC Fittings

The joint industry council fitting is a specific type of flare fitting that is machined with a 37 ° seating surface. JIC connections are widely applied for fuel supply and fluid power, particularly in situations where extreme resistance to pressure to a maximum of 10,000 psi is necessary. One of the most common applications for JIC connections is the fluid power industry, where they are mostly used in diagnostic and test points. A JIC three-way connection can be used to provide the inline port, allowing any user to connect to a diagnostic device or measuring device for pressures and system and circuit diagnostics.

British Standard Pipe

Virtually all countries make use of the BSP screw thread, other than the United States, where the NPT standard is used. BSP quality specifications apply to the sealing and interconnection of both external and internal threaded pipes and connectors. In all countries where BSP has been introduced, the pipe fitting sector and the plumbing industry embrace it as standard. The two major thread types of BSP are British Standard Pipe Taper Thread and British Standard Pipe Parallel Thread, which can be paired with one of two thread types, long screw threads and connecting threads.

Split Flange

Split-flange connectors usually are used when a high level of pressure, vibration and shock resistance is needed. These connections can provide strong links between a pipe and hose, or between hard lines. Flange connections also are highly resistant to loosening over time and can be assembled quickly and easily. As there are at least 700 different types of settings and sizes of split-flange connections, it is typically easy to find one for any specific application.
